What is MOVIDA?

Mi Gente Mi Pueblo enters every year with a question:  ¿Y Quien Es Mi Gente? This is an essential question to creating the future we want to see: All Latinx communities are visible, connected, and thriving.  With this vision in mind, Mi Gente Mi Pueblo is pleased to announce our Fourth Annual Mi Gente Movida! Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15th to October 15th,  Mi Gente Mi Pueblo will amplify and host a wide range of opportunities around our narrative, healing, and advocacy. Together in communidad, our collective power paves the way to visibility, feelings of belonging, and accessible resources. We partner with the Tampa Bay Latin International Film Festival and the Latin Jazz Association to bring a weekend full of connection and empowerment.  Our keystone event, Movida is a celebration of latinx art exhibits, music, dancing, food, and equity-focused conversations. This year we are being hosted by the Center for Health Equity in St. Petersburg on Saturday, October 7, 2023.

This year's theme:

Mis Raíces: My identity

Join us as we seek to connect with you and explore:
¿Y Quién es mi gente? Mis Raices & My Identity
Our roots are black, indigenous, white.
Our shared identity is intersectional and emergently complex. We need to get to know who we are together and with each other, who are we?

Our heritage weaves the threads of our identity, connecting our past, present and future. The experiences we embrace form a vibrant fabric that tells our unique story, reflecting the diversity and resilience of our community.

Together, we stand as the living embodiment of a rich heritage, an emergent and collective journey of fuerza (strength) and unity.

We invite you to celebrate and uplift all of your raíces (roots) and identity with community at Movida.
