About the event
This Event is HYBRID and you will be sent a link for the event when you RSVP by letting us know how many spaces you are reserving.
ALL are welcome to our 'salita'. This series lives at the intersection of healing and storytelling. Each session will foster a safe space to center authentic stories. We use creative writing and other art forms to rediscover and amplify our life experiences. We do this work to cultivate our collective power through connection, healing, and advocacy.
This season we dive into stories around death - on a personal, symbolic, communal, and collective level.
Reclamando Overview:
An intergenerational salita where mi gente intentionally gathers together with stories to share.
In this ancestral ritual and sacred space, participants (also known as weavers) alchemize through the power of words and art.
“To thrive, we must remember/reclaim our power (Risa Dickens).” In Reclamando, what we alchemize comes from what we dig up as we explore our root system, nuestras raíces, that have shaped the formidable tree we are today, and the forest, nuestra comunidad, in which we live.
We remember, reclaim, and reimagine nuestras historias en comunidad and through expression of all forms.
It is the remedio through which we reconnect with ourselves and nuestra gente.
Reclamando Incantation: This is the flow of every workshop session
Tune Into Ecosystems: Centering practices ancient and new that help us reduce the world’s static noise and tune into our ancestral frequency.
Remedio Elements: Based on the session’s theme, we tap into the work of other artists, experts, and historians for inspiration. Elements such as spoken and written word, visual and performing arts, become conduits for the practice of reclaiming.
Ritual & Incantation: We spend time weaving those elements together through creative expression – words, visuals, doodles, and more.
Brewing with Other Weavers: We share the remedio with one another – the art incantations we created or the process we followed.
Alchemy: We unpack the parts of the self that reveal themselves in the brewing. We explore how these transmutations show up in the collective – community, friends, family.
Weaving: The alchemy leads us forward in the living. We leave the salita with the magia in our pockets and in our feet. Our root system made stronger, our stories interlinked.
P.S. Importante:
You don't have to be "a writer" or "artist".
You don't have to be "fully healed".
This is an opportunity for communidad to connect through our shared stories and see the magia of ourselves, our ancestors, and each other.
