A Movement, Not a Moment
Curator Ketsy Ruiz invites local artists (Tampa Bay Area) with ties to Latin American and Spanish-speaking Caribbean heritage to submit entries for the upcoming artist exhibition: A Movement, Not a Moment Art, presented by Mi Gente Mi Pueblo.
Movida 2026: A Movement, Not a Moment is a celebration of where we've been, where we are, and where we're going. It is not a moment, but the continuation of the movement we're building together as a community. Rooted in Mi Gente Visions, we believe in a future where all Latinos are seen, heard, connected, and thriving. We invite you to join the movement. Share: How does your work amplify Latino voices? How do you envision our future, our culture, our communities thriving?
We are asking artists of the following genres to respond to this question through a creative medium (visual art, mixed media, literary, site-specific installation, or multi-genre): What part of our movement does your piece represent and what does it ask our community to imagine, feel, or carry forward?
A Movement, Not a Moment will be hosted at Tropical Home Fine Art Gallery, Ybor City, Tampa, FL.
Timeline expectations:
Submission Deadline: June 20, 2026 11:59pm EST
Acceptance Emails will be sent by: July 11, 2026
Drop off dates will be included with acceptance notices.
Event expectations:
Mi Gente Mi Pueblo hosts Movida—an annual multigenerational, Latinx-led cultural experience that transforms storytelling, art, and ancestral practice into tools for healing, community connection, and civic power. In a time of cultural erasure, social fragmentation, and inequitable access to public systems, Movida offers a joyful and justice-rooted intervention. The art exhibition is one of many components that will take place during our 6th annual Movida on September 19th, 2026.
We have no desire to police or censor our artists. Mi Gente Mi Pueblo will be speaking intentionally about this event to ensure all participants are comfortable and free to express their truths.
Gallery expectations:
Tropical Home Fine Art Gallery chose Ybor intentionally: to contribute to continuity, not erasure. To operate with accountability to place. To build something that lasts beyond trends. Tropical Home Fine Art Gallery is free and open to the public, Wednesday - Sunday, 10am - 6pm.
